Anita Matković

Stage – that abandoned, wooden pigsty; glamorous curtain – old, ragged sheets, audience – peers and child’s play turned into a real life play. The joy of common creation by children aged five or six. There is no theatre in our neighborhood, nor were we ever in the theatre.

Or maybe seventh or eighth grade of elementary school and one skinny girl with messy hair and bangs that her mother cut for her, chick with four eyes and a face hidden behind thick glasses “plays” the parts from “Pursy pumpkin” – at one moment she is Evica, in the next she is Fema and nobles and komi fo….first class, second class and intense quiet. Suddenly the burst of applause from the class audience after an hour and a half. The first applause.

Dream, reality, stage boards that mean life and worlds blending with one another. A step toward the lights of the stage, pretending to be someone else, searching inside myself mentally and emotionally and the feeling of overcoming an obstacle. Anita Marković started sharing her illusion with a mature audience after a string of certain life events. She finished elementary school, grammar school and graduated from Faculty of Economy in Zagreb. Since 1990 she is and actress in the Theatrical Company of Blind and Visually Impaired “New Life”. She still feels the smell of old sheets when she worked as drama educator in the Centre for Blind and Visually Impaired “Vinko Bek”, and in Students’ dorm “Dora Pejačević”. She is proud of rewards and compliments her students receive for numerous competitions: LIDRANO (2 times at state level), Domijada (3 times at state level).

She also found herself working with students amateurs – Theater Company MIST.
She is a member of Croatian Association of Dramatic Artists (HDDU) and Croatian Association of Dramatic Educators (HCDO).
