Theatre by the Blind: Pushing the Limits!
ArtsUP! LA’s flagship program, Theatre by the Blind - the only all-blind theatre company in the United States, creates and performs original works that empower and inspire participants and audiences alike.
Leaving their canes behind while playing fully sighted characters, they navigate independently by memorizing the layout of the stage using tactile surfaces on the floor to orient themselves in space. Throughout the year, they perform in front of packed audiences, for plays and musicals, and also write, direct, and star in original film projects.
Whether it be through breakdancing, rollerblading, skateboarding, or stage combat, this theatre troupe continues to defy the public perception of what’s possible.
