Marina Vujčić: The Submarine

This is a story of a fluid, platonic love which, faced with human malice and selfishness, dies before it even has a chance to bloom.
Music professor Emil Lahotski lost his sight some 15 years ago. He had no choice but to hire a carer to whom he signed over his house and everything he owns. The carer, not wanting to deal with him, hires a girl who will read to the professor.
Through conversations about literature, music and life in general, the professor and the girl who reads find their common spiritual interests and fall in love with each other.
The carer is increasingly suspicious of the girl fearing that the professor will sign over the house to her and disinherit him.
Even though that thought never crossed the girl’s mind, the carer fires her and locks the old professor in the room isolating him completely from the world.
The girl must leave, and the professor dies of grief.
